Should Christ-followers vote?

“Render to Caesar that which is Caesar’s and to God that which is God’s.” Luke 20:25
In the preceeding verse Jesus is teaching His followers how they are to interact in the two kingdoms: the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of this world. The teaching of Jesus here is very clear. Each               Christ-follower has responsibilities in both kingdoms.

I believe every Christ-follower has a God-given responsibility to vote on Tuesday November 3rd. Too many Christ-followers choose not to vote and then complain when our elected officials lack the good character needed to make a right decision.
Here are five reasons why every Christ-follower should vote.

1)Christ-followers should vote because Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:13-16 we are to be salt and light in the world and not apart from it.

2)Christ-followers should vote because our liberties were secured by the blood of our forefathers early in our nation’s history. When Christ-followers choose not to vote, our voice in the political process is weakened and Biblical values are no longer debated in the political arena.

3)Christ-followers should vote because Jesus urged his followers to “render to Caesar what was Caesar’s.” For a Christ-follower not to vote is direct disobedience to this command of Christ.

4)Christ-followers should vote because Jesus compels ue to voice our Biblically held convictions at the ballot box as well as through the mailbox or on our “soapbox.” (1 Peter 2:15). All Christ-followers need to be informed voters, not just voting the party line!

5)Christ-followers should vote because the innocent, the indigent, and the unborn need a defender (Micah 6:8). All Christ-followers should be voting for public policy which protects human life. cares for the oppressed and provides equal justice for the accused.

The key question is: Who will select our elected leaders?
Will Christ followers show up at the polls or leave the choosing of our leaders to others?

- Will Christ-followers turn out and vote in significant enough numbers to impact public policy concerning the best use of our tax dollars, the sanctity of life, religious liberty, and free speech?

- OR will Christ-followers allow those who have an atheistic world view to select our leaders thereby continuing our culture’s rapid decline?

I encourage you to vote and as much as is possible, vote your Biblical values.
